Recycling
Pasco County’s “Blue Bag" Curbside Recycling Program is a voluntary program.  Please use a blue bag to collect clean and rinsed recyclable items such as, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum and bimetal cans, and clear, green and brown glass.  Please remove caps and/or lids.

Blue bags may be purchased at area grocery and department stores.  If assistance is needed in locating blue bags, please contact the Recycling office for the nearest location to you,
for the numbers  (click here)

The recyclables are serviced by one of the 9 licensed garbage haulers.  Residents need to sign up for service with one of the garbage haulers below. If a resident pays the Home Owner’s Association (HOA) for garbage/recycling service, please contact them (the HOA) directly to find out the contracted garbage hauler that services the whole subdivision. The recyclables will be picked up bi-weekly by the garbage hauler.

The garbage hauler is required by county ordinance to provide a calendar to show the designated collectiondays for twice a week garbage and bi-weekly recycling service. The recycling day is determined by the hauler and residents should contact them for a calendar. After the bags are filled with recyclables, place the bags at curbside the night before the designated pick up day.

The blue bags are brought to the Pasco County Material Recovery Facility for processing.  The materials are sorted, baled and sold to markets to be made into new products.  Recycling conserves trees, water and other natural resources by reducing what people throw away, and it returns valuable material to the industry for reuse.

Florida Home-buyer program a big plus!

I would like to applaud the leadership and perseverance of lawmakers during the 2009 legislative session.

This year’s session had immense challenges, but state leaders made the tough decisions in the best interests of Florida taxpayers.

One major victory was the creation of the Florida Homebuyer Opportunity Program, sponsored by Sen. President Pro-Tem Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, and Rep. Gary Aubuchon, R-Cape Coral.

With the establishment of this program, state leaders had the good judgment to turn the $8,000 first-time homebuyer federal tax credit available to Floridians into down-payment assistance. This move has the potential to help thousands of citizens become first-time homeowners and simultaneously inject a $4.3 billion stimulus into the Sunshine State’s sagging economy.

The program, included in Senate Bill 2600 as a loan through the Florida Housing Financing Corp., will make sure the greatest number of Floridians will be able to take advantage of the tax credit before it expires on Nov. 30, at no cost to taxpayers.

Council Of Neighborhood Associations
Praise goes to the coalition of consumers, home builders and real estate agents who helped put this plan into action on behalf of consumers.

With the magnitude of home-price declines and the low mortgage rates available, homes are more affordable now than ever. There has never been a better time to take advantage of this opportunity to revitalize our housing market.

Many states, including Colorado, Idaho, Missouri, New Jersey, Ohio, Delaware, New Mexico, Pennsylvania and Tennessee, recently initiated similar programs. As the fourth-largest state, we soon will make this a reality in Florida.

As SB 2600 reaches the desk of Gov. Charlie Crist, thousands of Floridians will have the opportunity to realize the American dream of home ownership.

Green industry to benefit from federal stimulus, too!

The $787 billion stimulus package emphasizes funding for energy efficiency, sustainable building and renewable energy.

Green proponents hope that the stimulus package will help push the movement further into the mainstream as the public and private sector realize the environmental and fiscal benefits. “I’ve seen [LEED building] exponentially catch on in Florida in the last year,” said Mary Tappouni, Breaking Ground Contracting Co. president. “But the stimulus bill is going to further it where it is not just the federal government, but local and state governments” doing sustainable building.

It isn’t a market demand yet, but larger corporations that plan to stay in their facility for more than a decade can see the advantages. The recession may have stifled the market’s appetite for new building, but White doesn’t expect America’s enthusiasm for green initiatives to wither.
